Hints & strategie notes for this Deck
Diplomacy is a powerful tool when coupled with discerning guidance. A notable Klingon example is the combination of a zero-cost event, Guidance of the Council, and the ability of K'Tal, Senior Council Member. For every Chancellor or High Council Member personnel played, K'Tal allows you to download an event if he is at that mission. Similarly, each personnel with Diplomacy that is played triggers the text of Guidance of the Council to download a Chancellor or High Council Member. Moreover, Guidance of the Council is non-unique, allowing you to download multiple personnel each time you play a Diplomacy personnel. If those personnel are Chancellors or High Council Members, each one will trigger downloading an event when they are played, and so on, and so on, and so on...
Downloading so many personnel and events provides several benefits including point advantage (by not spending counters drawing those cards), direct access to specific events and personnel, and the potential maddening of your opponent. There are plenty of Klingons who hold Chancellor or High Council Member keywords, so a strong deck can be assembled based solely on the symbiotic relationship between K'Tal and Guidance of the Council. However, when combined with the game text of Alexander Rozhenko, K'mtar, a High Council Member with Diplomacy, you have the opportunity to download up to three events and three personnel in one play, spending only four counters! Careful mission selection is important, as all missions must list Diplomacy as a requirement, but they're not too hard to find. You may immediately play the two events downloaded using Alexander's game text at three less than they cost (each), opening the door for a strategically-played Sluggo or Complications. If you happen to have played a Party Atmosphere or two in previous turns, these (or other high-cost events you may otherwise avoid) may even be free!
The event party really kicks in gear with this deck if Morik happens to make an appearance – especially when his skills of Medical or Engineer help complement your Klingon team later during mission attempts, or to boost range on your Klingon ship by using Quantum Slipstream Drive. Another appealing option given the number of events in your core is the lowered cost of powerful dilemma combinations including Tsiolkovsky Infection, Whisper in the Dark, and Formal Hearing. Adding these to a dilemma pile themed on Tragic Turn or Overwhelmed can dramatically slow down your opponent very quickly – just be wary of those willing to make a Desperate Sacrifice.
Korath, Duplicitous Tinkerer, another High Council Member with Diplomacy, provides the ability to destroy an opponent's event when you play a non-Hand Weapon equipment. Complete the draw deck with three Emergency Transport Units, a Tricorder, some low-cost event staples like Unexpected Difficulties, Machinations, and a copy of every Klingon Chancellor or High Council Member you can find, and you're ready for high-speed mission solving - Qapla'!
