imageThe Threatening Shadow

This Deck article was written by openCards user Jaxander at Dec 20th, 2009.

((Sorry, for some reason it brings up a bunch of Tournaments above my deck layout. This is my first time using OpenCards, and I selected <none> for where it's been used, but for some reason they all still come up.))

Probably my favorite deck that I've made. Like most of mine, it's heavy focus is on the Shadow side. Gollum cards utilize threats for my opponent, putting them out as well as using them to their fullest extent. Support the Gollum set-up with some Ringwraith to fill out the Threat usage and add in some muscle as well.

The Free-Peoples side is built to last, buying you another turn to get back to Shadow. Solid Gondor Knight deck, using a few fortifications, some generic Knights for low cost and something to throw under the Balrog Bus. Nothing terribly special here.

imageThe Eye of Sauron

This Deck was build by Cynthia Hart and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

Sauron, the Maia with thousands of eyes and weapons at his command, broods upon the success of the Free People of the world. He has watched and waited for his time to act. He festers with hatred and plots the downfall of all who would be free of his will. Now that he feels his time has come to act, his spies are everywhere. Observing, reporting and feeding him information that results in plans to wound and eventually destroy those who oppose him. This strategy reflects the way Sauron tries to uses the information he gets from his spies to destroy the Fellowship.

imageGot Maneuver?

This Deck was build by Heidi-Marie Farinholt and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

With the recent release of the Battle of Helm's Deep expansion, a new mechanic was introduced into the game - the deployment of weapons onto Fellowship characters during the maneuver phase. Ordinarily the territory of events and special abilities, the maneuver phase is now even more thoroughly exploited by the Horse-Lords of the Rohirrim. With characters such as Eowyn, Daughter of Eomund, and Theoden, King of the Golden Hall, you can now deploy possessions during the maneuver phase to often quite useful effect - in the case of Eowyn, healing her (especially useful in decks using Help in Doubt and Need), and in Theoden's case, healing your Rohirrim allies. While not a maneuver ability, this is also echoed in the character Gamling, Warrior of Rohan. See the rest of this Deck...

imageNever Did I See An Axe So Wielded!

This Deck was build by Shawn Conley and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

So your opponent will be saying once your dwarven companions begin to slay his minions. Though short in stature, the dwarves of Middle Earth are indeed stout and sturdy. Properly equipped and supported, a fellowship of dwarven companions should be capable of slaying even the toughest of minions that attempt to block your triumphant arrival at site nine. With their easily boosted strength and high damage bonus potential they are a fearsome bunch of fighters. So, how do you, the LotR player, make this happen you ask? Well, let's take a look and see.

imageGollum and the Nazgul

This Deck was build by Matt Clemans and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

Let's talk about sub-optimal assignments. A sub-optimal assignment is when you force your opponent to choose to assign their characters in a less-than-desirable way. If you have a fully loaded fellowship facing a bunch of Moria orcs, for example, you will likely put the strongest orcs on the strongest companions in an effort to kill as many orcs as possible. This way, you don't have to deal with as many orcs being placed on Goblin Swarms and you are safer for the possible double move. If, however, you can make choosing assignments much harder for the Free People's player, then you can increase the chances that they will make a fatal mistake.

imageThe Rohan / Trust deck

This Deck was build by Matt Clemans and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

With the release of The Battle of Helm's Deep expansion, the ever popular Trust Me As You Did deck archetype has undergone some changes. Grima, Chief Counselor makes the Gimli/Legolas start much more risky to play, while the introduction of two new Rohan Companions with the Gandalf signet makes a single culture Trust deck much more viable. Here we'll look at how the Gandalf signet versions of Eowyn and Theoden can be used to create a solid Trust deck that is not vulnerable to either Grima, Chief Counselor, or Grima, Wormtongue.

imageRide, Southrons, Ride!

This Deck was build by Cynthia Hart and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

With the advent of Two Towers and Battle of Helm's Deep the weary feet of both companions and minions were given respite, in the form of mounts.

First the companions mounted up in Two Towers but now Battle of Helm's Deep has arrived and it's the shadow side's turn. Isengard gets Wargs, wolves as big as small horses, while the Raiders get Mumaks, the largest mounts yet seen in the movie. But not just anyone can jump on the nearest mount - each one has it's own subset of riders.

Although Mumaks are a Raider mount, only the Southrons can ride them. So the question becomes: What makes the Mumaks a good card for a Southron deck and what strategies do they enhance?
