    Chain Reaction Pulsar

This Card-Review article was written by Todd Soper and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Jul 6th, 2000.

If this extra were to be written by Neil Kirby, he'd say that I'd have everyone singing about something or other. Well, he's right. Sing with me!

"We don't need no bloated WEAPONS. We don't need no Space control. No blowing up my only Outpost. Hey! Armadas! Leave my ships alone! All in all it's just another deck down the drain."

The Chain Reaction Pulsar is one mighty Tactic card. As long as you have a ship with three or more staffing icons engaged in battle, you can make use of this Tactic's immense ATTACK bonus. Couple that with the -35% HULL damage marker, and you have a card that integrates itself easily into almost any Battle Bridge side deck looking for a good balance of high attack numbers and decent damage markers to boot. Compare this to Quantum Torpedoes which has an equal ATTACK bonus of 5, but only -15% HULL damage. And the Pulsar's ATTACK gets even bigger if you have an Akira-class ship firing in the battle!

While using this as your current tactic, the damage you'll deal out won't be a large amount whether you get a "hit" or a "direct hit." But that lack of benefit turns around 180 degrees to do what no other Tactic card can do: it completely takes out an Event card enhancing the attributes of the ship you "hit," whether it is a Bynars Weapon Enhancementimage, a Nutational Shieldsimage, or an unprotected Captain's Logimage or Tactical Consoleimage. At the right moment, this can set your opponent back to the brink of defeat in what would have been a victorious series of skirmishes. Or you can use the Pulsar to keep your opponent in check by taking pot-shots at her ships, thereby reducing the chances of an over-bloated armada from controlling the spaceline and further limiting Scan abuse. And the more pot-shots you take, subtracting their shields by 3 each time, the easier it gets to hit them again.
