    Gold-Pressed Latinum

Friends may come and go, but latinum is constant and unwavering. With a bit of latinum in hand there are few limits to what you can do. Want to download a piece of equipment? Take yourself off to Quark's Barimage and trade some latinum using HQ: Ferengi Credit Exchange. Want to buy a few points? Send your Acquisition personnel to Ferenginar and trade in some latinum. Want to attempt a non-Ferengi mission? How else will you bribe your way in if you don't have latinum? Want to Purchase a Moon? Use 4 Latinum and some common skills to get 40 points. Do you see a pattern beginning to form here? You want it - latinum will help you get it.

Speaking of which, how do you build up your latinum reserves? As Equipment, you can report it normally, but there quicker ways. If your Ferengi personnel dies, you can sell his Vacuum-Desiccated Remainsimage for the going rate of latinum. Establish Trade Routeimage gives you points and possibly some latinum as well. The 34th Rule of Acquisition gives a nice little payoff if your opponent's ship just happens to get damaged, while the 75th Rule will reward the more adventurous Ferengi explorer. A quick game of Dabo in Quark's Bar is another option, or have a quiet word with the Lurian at the end of the bar and see if you can get hold of some of his abdominal supply. You might also look at the 1st Rule of Acquisition to help with your cashflow.

While the Ferengi are clearly the main users of Latinum, other affiliations can use it to good effect. Most of the uses of latinum only require Acquisition and a place to trade it. Useful characters such as Hagath (so what if he's only got 5 skills? Non-aligned arms-dealers aren't very common), Morn, or Kivas Fajo have the Acquisition required to trade latinum for points at the Credit Exchange without running the risk of having a Writ slapped on you. With free access to Ferengi Trading Posts it's easy to do. So whether you want to buy equipment or points, Gold-Pressed Latinum is your flexible friend.

    Combos:

    • Purchase Moon + Gold-Pressed Latinum x4: 40 points to be had on a difficult to steal mission.
    • Gold Pressed Latinum + Bribery: The Ferengi approach to diplomacy ensures that they're the affiliation that can do anything.
